The Wasteland Rapier

Description

One of my favorite builds to date, this rapier is the perfect combination of junk and artwork. The beautifully polished blade is hand forged from a a rusty old leaf spring, an impressive transformation in its own right, but certainly not the best part of the piece. The swept hilt is by far the most eye catching component of the whole build; bent from a collection of bike sprockets, the guard was ground, heated, bent, and welded to shape transforming a pile of rigid, mechanical objects into a surprisingly elegant, flowing, and organic form.
It is worth noting that the blade has no ricasso, this was an error in the build caused by lack of research and background knowledge on my part. This hinders the functionality and historical accuracy of the blade but, let’s be honest, this piece isn’t really about being true to the rapiers of the old days.
